What’s Your Reason for not Shopping ‘Shop Small Business Saturday’?
Every year, it seems, I ask this question and the usual response is “there’s nothing I want to buy in Uptown (Kingston)”.
My response – especially this year – is, “um…have you been in Uptown recently?”
For some, this is simply a carryover from the bad old post-IBM, post-mall days. As Uptown withered, they went elsewhere and simply never came back. Or some find parking is a hassle or it’s easier to shop online.
But the Millenial Generation is changing the game. Studies show that Millenials want brick and mortar, they want small specialty shops, cozy dining, and groovy cafes. They want to buy local and support entrepreneurial spirit.
This Saturday – November 25, 2017 – is Shop Small Business Saturday, where holiday shoppers are encouraged to rediscover local businesses and support hometown mom-and-pop (and sometimes pop-and-pop – you get the idea…lol) shops, restaurants and services, keeping local money local. From gifts to gift certificates to holiday hostess gifts to amazing restaurants and cafes to replenish yourself, it’s all here!!
And if you still need a reason, here’s 48 to start with – all members of KUBA. Happy shopping!!
